Jon H. York, Director Jon H. York, Director, is a 35-year veteran of the Bay Area trial courts. He has completed more than 125 jury trials in municipal, superior and federal court, winning 90 percent or more, primarily in civil litigation representing insured and self-insured persons, corporations, and other business entities. Jon’s trial experience includes earth movement, personal injury litigation, construction defect, maritime law, environmental and hunting litigation, class action, landlord-tenant matters, and sex and race discrimination. He is experienced at business transactions, corporate drafting, and litigating involving public entities. Jon received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College in 1967, and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall, in 1970. He started his career in San Francisco with the respected trial firm, Bledsoe, Smith, Cathcart, Johnson & Rodgers. He founded York, Buresh & Kaplan in Berkeley in 1982 which became Jon York & Associates in 1999. Jon qualified in 1981 as a Certified Civil Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA). He qualified by completing 25 jury trials, obtaining written recommendations from four adversaries and four of his trial judges, and passing a daylong test. In 1993, Jon was elected by his peers to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) after nomination and election by 85 percent of the voting membership. He enjoys the rank of Advocate. Advocates have completed 50 or more jury trials in Superior or Federal Court. Jon is one of approximately 600 attorneys in the United States who enjoys membership in both ABOTA and the NBTA, and in 2006 was named a Northern California SUPER LAWYER. This designation was awarded to 3-4% of Northern California lawyers by a survey of 40,000 attorneys in Northern California. Also in 2006, Jon was accepted into the American Academy of Trial Counsel as a Fellow. This organization restricts its national membership of Fellows to 2500.
