Ruxana Meer

Ruxana Meer graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1992 with a B.A. in Political Science.  After graduating from Hastings College of the Law in 2002, she joined Jon York and Associates where she began handling a caseload consisting of personal injury, premises liability, water intrusion, products liability claims and first party matters.  In 2005, she represented an Oakland homeowner in a trespass case which resolved in a defense verdict after a jury trial.  She has represented clients in numerous Alternative Dispute Resolution hearings including mediation, arbitration and non-binding arbitration.  She has also defended commercial claims arising out of California’s Right of Publicity Statutes, the Carriage of Goods at Sea Act, and the California Building Code. 

While at Hastings, Ruxana externed in the federal court in the Northern District of California for then-Chief Justice Marilyn Hall Patel.  As an extern, she researched Constitutional criminal law issues, unfair labor practice claims, breach of contract and public entity liability.  Ruxana also worked as a law clerk for the California Teachers Association, the largest public employee union in California. There, she prepared cases arising under the Equal Employment Relations Act which protects school district employees from discriminatory practices. 

Ruxana holds a California teaching credential.  Prior to law school, she taught middle school in Oakland, Hayward and Union City. She also lived in Andong, South Korea where she taught English as a Second Language.
