The subjects of his trials include earth movement, injury litigation, landlord-tenant disputes, sexual harassment, environmental and hunting litigation, class actions, and sex and race discrimination. He is experienced at business transactions, corporate drafting, and litigating with public entities. Jon received his undergraduate degree from Pomona College in 1967 and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall, in 1970. He started his career in San Francisco with the respected trial firm, Bledsoe, Smith, Cathcart, Johnson & Rodgers. He founded York, Buresh & Kaplan in Berkeley in 1982. which became Jon York & Associates in 1999. In 1981, Jon qualified to become a Certified Civil Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA), in a process similar to that of "board certifying" for doctors. He qualified by completing 25 jury trials, obtaining written recommendations from four adversaries, and four of his trial judges, and then passing a day-long test. In 1993, Jon was elected by his peers into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), after nomination and election by 85 percent of the voting membership. He enjoys the rank of Advocate. Advocates have completed 50 or more jury trials in Superior or Federal Court. Jon is one of approximately 600 attorneys in the United States who enjoys membership in both ABOTA and the NBTA.
