Margaret J. Allen

Margaret J. Allen has been practicing law in California since 1985.  She specializes in insurance defense and probate/estate planning.  Margaret joined the firm in 1994 and has handled cases including construction defect litigation, multi-party toxic torts, earth movement, landlord-tenant, motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall and breach of contract. She has successfully tried landlord-tenant, breach of contract and motor vehicle accident cases to juries in Alameda and Marin counties.  Recently, she has represented a public school district in connection with employee, contract and sexual harassment issues.  She also has extensive experience resolving cases through arbitration and mediation.  In all, she has obtained favorable results for her clients more than 90 percent of the time.

Margaret received her B.A. from Smith College in 1974 and her J.D., cum laude, from Golden Gate University in 1985.  She began her career with Pillsbury Winthrop, then known as Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro, in San Francisco, in the bankruptcy department.  She then joined the bankruptcy unit of the former San Francisco firm, Pettit & Martin.

Margaret is a member of the Association of Defense Counsel.  She holds several leadership positions in her church, First Congregational Church of Berkeley.  She has privately counseled members of her church in probate, divorce, landlord-tenant and breach of contract disputes.  She sits on the Board of Trustees of Pacific School of Religion, one of the country’s most well-respected seminaries.
